Further expanding on EIZO's flagship HDR reference monitor, the ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3146 is the first true HDR reference monitor in the world to incorporate a built-in calibration sensor for ensuring the ultimate color-accurate HDR viewing environment.
HDR (High Dynamic Range) is a range that approximates the human perception of color and light as content is shown on a display device. A monitor which supports HDR is able to correctly show both very bright and very dark areas on the screen without sacrificing the integrity of either. With lower-range SDR (Standard Dynamic Range) monitors, brightness, contrast, and color are lost when displaying HDR content.
EIZO's ColorEdge PROMINENCE HDR reference monitors are the first to overcome the severe drawbacks of other HDR technologies available in the market, so they can be used reliably for post production work.
Auto Brightness Limiter (ABL) equipped in other HDR OLED monitors limits the monitor's ability to display lighter scenes with tones over a specific range. This causes those light areas to appear dimmer and the color duller as a result.
Local dimming uses an area control backlight system which adjusts the brightness in sections of the screen depending on the content displayed. However, when an object on the screen falls outside of the area of the backlight that is adjusted, a "halo" effect appears, making it impossible to achieve full color accuracy in smaller details.
EIZO's ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3146 achieves a true HDR visual experience without ABL or Local Dimming to ensure you always see accurate colors and brightness in every pixel.
ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3146 supports two gamma curves used for HDR video – hybrid log-gamma (HLG) and perceptual quantization (PQ) curve. HLG is compatible with SDR displays and is suitable for live television broadcasting. PQ curve approximates the human visual system in terms of color and light perception, making it ideal for films, streaming, and other video content. Both gamma curves were standardized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) as ITU-R BT.2100. In addition, the PQ curve was standardized by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) as ST-2084.
The ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3146 is the first HDR reference monitor in the world to be equipped with a built-in sensor which calibrates the monitor to stay color accurate. This eliminates the need for a third-party calibration device and streamlines color management so you can stay more focused on the creative process. Calibration information is saved directly to the monitor, so you do not need to recalibrate if connecting to more than one PC.
ColorNavigator 7 is the latest calibration and quality control software for ColorEdge color management monitors. It combines all the features of EIZO's previous color management software, ColorNavigator 6 and ColorNavigator NX, to create a new and improved solution for creatives in a range of fields. The proprietary software makes calibration simple and produces predictable results for photography, design, print, and video creation.
ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3146 achieves the 1000 cd/m2 high brightness level needed for HDR content display. It also offers a typical contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 for displaying true blacks.
ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3146 displays the DCI-4K standard (4096 x 2160) which is more than four times that of full HD (1920 x 1080). It is ideal for creating, editing, and referencing with 2D and 3D CGI, VFX, compositing, and color grading.
The ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3146 is equipped with a Single-Link 12G/6G/3G/HD-SDI and Dual- or Quad-Link 3G*/HD-SDI connections for seamless transmission of 4K video data. The SDI connections support 2SI (2 sample interleave) to ensure picture is always maintained during transmission. VPID (Video Payload ID) is also supported for SDI connections.
*2 sample interleave supported.
Furthermore, the monitor has an HDMI and DisplayPort input located conveniently on the side of the monitor for flexible connection to a range of other video devices. Four USB downstream ports and one upstream port are also equipped.
HDMI and DisplayPort Inputs
The monitor's HDMI and DisplayPort inputs support DCI 4K at 60p. HDMI input supports 12-bit 4:2:2 at 50/60p and DisplayPort input supports up to 10-bit 4:4:4 at 50/60p.
The wide gamut faithfully reproduces 99% of the DCI-P3 standard used in post production for faithful reproduction of color.
The ColorEdge CG3146 offers 10-bit simultaneous display* from a 24-bit look-up-table (LUT) which means it can show more than one billion colors simultaneously. This is 64 times more colors than you get with 8-bit display, resulting in smooth color gradations and reduced Delta-E between two adjacent colors.
*A graphics board and software which support 10-bit output are also necessary for 10-bit display. Equipment that supports DeepColor is required for 10-bit display when connected via HDMI.
A 3D LUT is included which adjusts colors individually on an RGB cubic table. The 3D LUT also improves the monitor's additive color mixture (combination of RGB), which is a key factor in its ability to display neutral gray tones.
The color and brightness of an LCD monitor can shift due to changes in ambient temperature and the temperature of the monitor itself. ColorEdge CG Series monitors are equipped with a temperature sensor for accurately measuring the temperature inside the monitor, as well as estimating the temperature of the surrounding environment. With this temperature sensing and estimation technology, the monitor adjusts in real-time so gradations, color, brightness, and other characteristics continue to be displayed accurately. Furthermore, EIZO uses AI (artificial intelligence)* in the estimation algorithm of the CG3146 so it can distinguish between various temperature changing patterns to calculate even more accurate correction.
A typical monitor takes 30 minutes or more for its brightness, chromaticity, and tone characteristics to stabilize. The ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3146 takes a mere 3* minutes so you get reliable color display soon after turning the monitor on.
*Based on EIZO's internal testing.
LCD monitors commonly exhibit fluctuations in brightness and chromaticity across the screen, affecting color accuracy. To counter this, ColorEdge monitors are equipped with EIZO's patented digital uniformity equalizer (DUE) technology which corrects deviations in every tone across the screen to ensure stable display.
The ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3146 provides quick access to several broadcast-standard preset color modes from the OSD menu. The available modes are BT.2020, BT.709, DCI-P3, PQ_BT.2100, PQ_DCI-P3, HLG_BT.2100, Calibration, and SYNC_SIGNAL.
To ensure color settings stay consistent throughout production, the ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3146 includes a Sync Signal function which automatically adjusts the monitor's settings, such as input range and input color format, according to the video signal.
The ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3146 includes a function that shows the areas of the image that cannot be displayed correctly at the current brightness settings. These areas are marked in yellow or magenta and can be viewed for brightnesses of 300, 500, 1000, and 4000 cd/m2.
Enlarge areas of the screen to confirm small details and check focus accuracy in images using the 4K zoom function. It is quickly and easily accessible using the monitor's front buttons.
The monitor includes a Gamut Warning preset that when selected, indicates areas of a BT.2020 image that cannot be reproduced using BT.709 by converting them to shades of gray. An additional mode called BT.709 Clipping allows the editor to view BT.2020 images within the BT.709 color space, simulating how it would look to their audience in an HDTV environment.
The monitor's front bezel includes a dial for quickly and easily navigating the OSD menu or adjusting monitor settings, such as brightness.
Due to the way brightness is controlled on LED backlights, a small number of people perceive flicker on their screen which causes eye fatigue. The ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3146 regulates brightness to make flicker unperceivable without any drawbacks, such as compromising color stability.
The monitor comes bundled with a light-shielding hood that effectively prevents glare on the screen caused by ambient lighting. The hood attaches magnetically for quick and easy setup.
Two handles on the back allow for a firm grip to carry or move the monitor.
